It’s been on my bucket list for too long and as winter is getting closer, I couldn’t wait anymore. Additionally, I had a bottle of excellent Spanish wine from Rioja region and I just knew it’s perfect for an outdoor adventure! It was a beautiful sunny day, ideal for a road trip through Swiss dreamy villages and also ideal to uncork the bottle, enjoy some fresh mountain air and admire panoramic views.

Views on the way to Mürren
We decided to go by car, driving from Basel up to Lauterbrunnen. From there we took a cable car and then a train to Mürren (Mürren is a vehicle-free village). I must say that it was one of the most charming train rides I’ve took so far in Switzerland. It’s less than 30 minutes, the train is really old (the atmosphere brings in mind black and white movies) and you go all the way up in the mountains. The views are just breathtaking. I seriously only thought of how lucky I am to live in such country and to be able to experience it on a daily basis.
We arrived right in time for lunch (and it was wine o’clock already!). The village seemed a bit sleepy, as there weren’t many visitors and most of the hotels wait with reopening for the winter season. It felt like we were the only ones there.
After a short walk, we started searching for a perfect picnic spot. Fortunately, that wasn’t hard as the entire village offers beautiful views. Here’s a proof!

View goals
I went there with my boyfriend and two of our friends, who happen to love mountain gateways as much as we do. We were all very excited to get to celebrate another adventure together with delicious food and amaaazing wine from Rioja region. When we all sat together to enjoy our drinks, it literally felt like time stopped for a while.
The whole scenery was so beautiful and wine was incredibly delightful. Once we tasted it we knew we made the right decision by bringing this bottle with us. We spent the afternoon with our glasses, telling stories, laughing, and dreaming about where we all want to travel to next (and which Rioja wine we should bring with us, ha!).
Just have a look at the pictures!

Our lunch
It was such a perfect combination, crisp mountain air, picturesque views, delicious red wine and lots of fun. We already promised each other we’re coming back again, when the ski season is in full bloom, for a whole different experience entirely!
What is your favourite Swiss picnic location and what wine do you like to bring with you? Let me know!
