Zimtsterne recipe from Confiserie Schiesser

A few days ago we visited the oldest Confiserie in Basel to make our own Christmas cookies and today I am sharing their 150 years old recipe with you. Either you want to treat someone with a homemade holiday present (we surely will :)) or if you need some extra holiday magic at home – making the Zimtsterne from the recipe below will surely do πŸ™‚

What you need:

2 Eggwhites (ca. 70g)
1 pinch of salt
200 g of sugar
350 g ground almonds
1.5 tbs cinnamon
0,5 tbs Kirsch

How to make it:

Beat the egg whites with salt until stiff. Mix in sugar. Mix the almonds and cinnamon, add to the egg white mass together with Kirsch.
Roll out the dough in portions on a little sugar or between a cut open plastic bag about 1 cm thick. Cut out stars. Put the cookies on baking trays covered with baking paper. Dry at room temperature for about 6 hours or overnight.
Preheat oven to 240 degrees
Bake: 3-5 minutes each in the middle of the oven. Take out, cool cinnamon stars on a grid.
Mix powdered sugar and lemon juice to a thick glaze. Spread a little glaze on the cinnamon stars with a brush and let it dry.

En guete!
